Manchester City FC – Streymur history: who could win?

People say that history is not important in football, when the match starts. But during circumstances like UEFA Cup first round, always seems to be decisive. On Thursday, EB/Streymur (Faroe Islands) and Manchester City FC (England) will be playing the first leg of the first round.

Streymnes city’s EB/Streymur, which t-shirt seems Inter Milan, is a result of a merger in 1993 between Eiðis Bóltfelag, who were founded in 1913, and Streymur, founded in 1976. The club won a spot in UEFA Cup because they won Faroese Cup on June. But since 1913 foundation, the team never won the top division League. By the way, they are in the first position, played 15 matches at 2008 League.

This UEFA Cup it is the second competition that Streymur will play in Europe. They have played only two matches in UEFA Cup before.

EB/Streymur Director, Roland Hojsted, announced that the home leg of the tie will be held at one of the larger grounds in the Faroe Islands, Tórsvøllur Stadium, as the club's Við Margáir ground has a capacity of only 1,000.

Streymur players in Faroe National Team? They are five: goalkeeper René Tórgarð; defender Marni Djurhuus, midfielders Hans Pauli Samuelsen and Mikkjal Thomassen and forward Arnbjørn Hansen. But wait: no one could score during an international match.
