Carling Cup Final preview: Manchester United – Tottenham Hotspur

Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur both play in their seventh League Cup final when they meet in the 2009 Carling Cup Final on Sunday, 1 March. Tottenham Hotspur are going for their fifth League Cup win in seven final appearances and Manchester United for their third.

After their win in 2008, Spurs could become the third team to win the League Cup in back-to-back years.

According to Infostrada Sports, Nottingham Forest and Liverpool are the only teams to have previously won two League Cup finals in a row.

Tottenham Hotspur – Arsenal: the match of the week

On Sunday, Arsenal travel to their North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur. The Gunners have an excellent record against Spurs in recent years.

Arsenal are unbeaten in their last 18 Premier League matches against Tottenham, since losing 2-1 at White Hart Lane on November 7, 1999. This is Arsenal’s longest ever unbeaten run against their rivals according to Infostrada.

If Arsenal avoid defeat on Sunday, it will equal their longest ever run without a defeat against another Premier League side – level with their 19-matches unbeaten against Chelsea (1995-2005) and Aston Villa (1999-2008).

Jermaine Defoe goes for Fernando Torres: Portsmouth - Tottenham Hotspur preview



On Sunday, Portsmouth hosts Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League. Portsmouth striker Jermain Defoe is set to face his former club Tottenham for the first time since he left them to join Pompey in January.

Since Defoe left Tottenham at the end of the January transfer window, Spurs have won only four of their 20 Premier League matches – the fewest wins in the division in this period.

Defoe has scored 12 goals since joining Pompey. Only Liverpool’s Fernando Torres has scored more goals in the Premier League since 31 January, according to Infostrada.
